The Foundations of Technology program serves as a comprehensive survey course that exposes students to the twelve diverse program offerings at Region 10. This immersive experience familiarizes students with industry-standard tools and technologies while instilling essential skills in industrial safety, hand and power tool usage, and relevant mathematics and writing techniques. Automotive Careers Region 10 offers two distinct pathways for individuals passionate about automotive careers: Auto Tech, focusing on mechanical aspects of vehicle maintenance, and Auto Collision & Restoration, specializing in dent and collision repair.

Health Science Careers Within the realm of Health Science Careers, Region 10 offers two pathways: EMT, which concentrates on emergency medical response, and CNA, which focuses on providing essential care and support to patients in healthcare settings.

Construction Related Careers Explore construction-related careers at Region 10 through pathways like Building Trades, emphasizing construction skills, Electrical Technology, focusing on electrical systems, and Welding & Metal Fabrication, delving into metalworking techniques. Through hands-on training and expert instruction, students gain practical experience and industry-relevant certifications, preparing them for successful careers in the dynamic field of construction.

Auto Collision & Restoration

In the Auto Collision and Restoration module, students explore the art and science of automotive repair and refinishing. Through hands-on projects and demonstrations, students learn techniques in dent repair, paint application, and vehicle restoration, equipping them with skills for careers in the automotive industry.

Electrical Technology

The Electrical Technology module offers a comprehensive introduction to the world of electrical systems and technologies. Designed to equip students with practical skills and foundational knowledge, the program covers a range of topics, including electrical circuits, wiring, and safety protocols. Students gain hands-on experience in labs, learning to design, build, and troubleshoot electrical systems.

Emergency Medical Technician

The EMT module provides students with essential skills for emergency services. Covering topics like patient assessment, basic life support, and trauma response, the curriculum combines theoretical knowledge with practical exercises and simulations. Students also develop communication, professionalism, and teamwork skills. Upon completion, graduates hold an EMT certification and may apply for entry-level positions or choose to further their education in healthcare.

Creative Digital Media

The Creative Digital Media module introduces students to Adobe software while covering various aspects of digital media production, including graphic design, video editing, animation, and web development. Students engage in hands-on projects, learning to create compelling content across multiple platforms. The program also emphasizes critical skills such as storytelling, visual communication, and creative problem-solving, preparing students for diverse career opportunities in digital media.

Certified Nursing Assistant (C.N.A.)

The CNA module offers high school students foundational skills in patient care, including assistance with daily activities, vital sign monitoring, and medical documentation. The curriculum combines classroom instruction with clinical practice, preparing students for immediate entry into healthcare or further nursing studies.

Informational Tech & Cyber-Security

The Information Technology and Cyber Security module provides students with a solid foundation in digital security, covering topics such as network protection, ethical hacking, and encryption. Through hands-on exercises and simulations, students learn to safeguard systems against cyber threats, preparing them for further studies or entry-level roles in the IT and cyber security sectors.

Automotive Technology

The Automotive Technology module introduces students to the fundamentals of car maintenance, repair, and diagnostics. The curriculum covers engine systems, transmission, and digital diagnostics, offering hands-on experience in automotive workshops. Graduates are prepared for immediate entry into the auto industry or further technical studies.

About the Instructor

Ward Boudreau is the Foundations of Technology instructor at Region 10 Technical High School. With a background in designing store displays for L.L. Bean, Ward brings a wealth of real-world experience to his teaching. He graduated from the University of Southern Maine and has diverse interests, including motorcycle building, painting, and running marathons with his twin brother, Wade, who also works at Region 10. Ward’s passion for woodworking is evident in the numerous projects he has completed with his brother, ranging from fine furniture to cabinetry. His dedication to teaching is inspired by the many great role models and teachers he had, who not only taught him technical skills but also life lessons. Ward aims to provide the same comprehensive and inspiring education to his students, encouraging them to explore their potential and develop a wide range of skills. He emphasizes hands-on learning and practical experience, helping students gain a solid foundation in technology and trades. Ward’s approach to education is holistic, focusing not just on technical skills but also on personal development. He believes in fostering a supportive and engaging learning environment where students can thrive. His enthusiasm for teaching and his extensive background in various trades make him an invaluable asset to Region 10 Technical High School.

About the Instructor

Joe Sheppard is the Social Studies instructor at Region 10 Technical High School. Originally from northern Maine, Joe brings a deep passion for history and social studies to the classroom. He earned his degree in History from Skidmore College in upstate New York. Before beginning his teaching career, Joe gained valuable experience in the legal field, where he developed a strong understanding of the importance of civic knowledge and historical context. Joe’s transition to education was driven by his desire to share his love of history and social studies with others, particularly in his home state of Maine. His approach to teaching emphasizes the relevance of history, geography, economics, and civics to any future career, helping students see the practical applications of their studies. Outside the classroom, Joe enjoys a variety of hobbies that reflect his love of the outdoors and his creative spirit. He is an avid guitar player, traveler, and cook, and he cherishes time spent with his family. An enthusiast for outdoor activities, Joe enjoys skiing during the winter months, cycling in the summer, and hiking in Acadia National Park during the fall and spring. His love for the natural beauty of Maine is evident in his frequent trips to Acadia, where he enjoys the serenity of the park outside the busy tourist season. Joe is excited to be part of the Region 10 community and is committed to making social studies an engaging and meaningful subject for all his students.
