First Year Curriculum: E.M.T. Certification

    • Emergency Medical Services Systems: Gain a comprehensive understanding of EMS systems, including their structure, function, and role in healthcare.
    • Workforce Safety & Wellness: Learn strategies to prioritize your own well-being while delivering high-quality care to patients in diverse emergency situations.

CAREERS & SALARIES

Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)

Description: Provides emergency medical care and transportation to patients in emergency situations. EMTs perform life-saving procedures, stabilize patients, and transport them to medical facilities.

Paramedic

Description: Provides advanced medical care in emergency situations, including administering medications, performing advanced airway management, and using sophisticated medical equipment. Paramedics often lead emergency response teams.

Emergency Room Technician

Firefighter/EMT

About the Instructor

Rachel Eramo is an accomplished EMT instructor at Region 10 Technical High School, where she brings extensive expertise and dedication to her students. A distinguished graduate of Brunswick High School and Region 10 Technical High School in 2018, Rachel earned honors and was named Student of the Year. She holds an AAS in Fire Science (2020) and an AAS in Paramedicine (2022) from Southern Maine Community College, along with an EMS Instructor/Coordinator license and National Paramedic certification.

Rachel has a rich background in emergency services, having served with Bowdoinham Fire/Rescue since 2017 and rising to the position of EMS Chief in 2023. She also participated in SMCC’s Live-In program with Topsham Fire/Rescue, gaining hands-on experience while responding to emergency calls. Her career includes roles as a CNA at Horizons Senior Living and Rehab and various instructional positions at SMCC’s EMS department. Rachel is also an active community volunteer, recognized by the Girl Scouts of Maine with the 2019 Volunteer of Excellence award. Her teaching philosophy emphasizes practical training and student mentorship, ensuring that her students are well-prepared for their careers in emergency services.
