Translating Digital Designs to Physical Surfaces

Students in the Creative Digital Media program at Region 10 Technical High School have the unique opportunity to transform their digital creations into tangible products using a variety of advanced techniques. These methods include sublimation printing, which transfers vibrant, full-color designs onto cloth, ceramic, and other substrates, creating custom apparel, mugs, and more. They also use the Glowforge for precision laser cutting and engraving to create intricate designs on wood, acrylic, leather, and other materials. Additionally, students apply printed decals to various surfaces, such as glass and metal, through decal transfer, producing personalized items like custom glassware and metal signs. Sandblasting allows them to etch detailed designs into glass and stone, adding a professional finish to items like glass awards and stone plaques. Enameling enables students to fuse powdered glass to metal at high temperatures, creating durable and colorful jewelry, pins, and other decorative objects.

These hands-on experiences provide numerous benefits to students. They gain real-world application by working with industry-standard equipment and techniques, preparing them for careers in graphic design, product design, and various manufacturing fields. Translating 2D digital designs into 3D physical objects enhances their creativity and fosters a deeper understanding of design principles and material properties. Mastery of these techniques broadens their skill sets, making them versatile designers capable of working across multiple mediums and industries. Additionally, creating tangible products allows students to build a diverse portfolio, showcasing their ability to execute projects from concept to finished product, which is highly valuable in both higher education and employment contexts. This experience not only enhances students’ technical abilities but also boosts their creativity and adaptability, equipping them with the skills needed to thrive in the dynamic field of digital media and design.

Madison Shephard, Alumni

{The Creative Digital Media program taught me so, so much, and really sparked my passion for Graphic Design. I received 12 credits from the program, and was able go on to SMCC with 4 classes completed. I still talk to my teacher from Region 10 to this day, and she is still one of my biggest mentors when it comes to art and design.

Sydney Silva, Alumni

{When I began in Ms. Palmer’s class as a senior, I had no digital art experience. But through her teaching I was able to gain experience and create an amazing portfolio that helped me get into my dream school, Florida Southern University. I can say that now that I am in college receiving my BFA in Graphic Design, I have been able to excel among my classmates due to my prior experience with the Adobe software.

Stephanie Johnson, Alumni

{This class taught me to see the principles and elements of design in every project. It also gave me a new appreciation for art and history museums. I also had the opportunity to do game development during studio time, something I’ve personally wanted to do for a long time. I am now pursuing a career in this field at Thomas College.
