ACCUPLACER TESTING

Technical English students will sit for the Accuplacer test (Community College admission/placement test) twice a year.  Part of the instruction in the class is designed for Accuplacer prep in Sentence Skills and Reading Comprehension.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

The R10 Tech English program is designed to give students experience in career relevant reading and writing, and to prepare students to correspond and communicate effectively and professionally in the workplace.  Technical writing is also a focus within the class.

ACCESSING TECHNICAL ENGLISH

Students taking Technical English typically fall in to one of two categories: credit recovery (students who may need to take two English courses within a school year to meet graduation requirements) or students who require it for scheduling purposes.  All students looking to enroll in Technical English must get a referral from their guidance counselor.

PROFESSIONAL WRITING

– Cover Letter / Letter of Introduction
– Resume construction
– Informational writing (accident reports, evals, etc.)
– Letters of reference
– Persuasive writing
– On-Demand writing

CAREER EXPLORATION

– Research techniques
– Comparing/evaluating career trends
– Identifying career pathways/local resources

 PROGRAM STATEMENT

Students that successfully complete two years of Building Trades will have the basic carpentry skills necessary to work successfully in the field of carpentry. With this foundation, they should be able to advance quickly with work experience and professional guidance on the job site.
