PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

Automotive Technology I and II

The two-year Automotive Technology program at Region 10 Tech is designed to prepare students for entry into one of many possible careers in the automobile industry.  National standards for the program are set by Automotive Service Excellence (A.S.E.) and their educational branch, the National Automotive Technician Education Foundation (N.A.T.E.F.).  Students with all levels of previous mechanical experience are given the opportunity to learn and advance their skills and knowledge in the diagnosing and repair of vehicles.  Simple tasks to complex computer systems are covered, classroom training and hands-on shop work are used., tools and equipment are provided.  Job placement in a repair facility or other related fields of employment are very common.  The demand for skilled employees is high and the pay is excellent.  Attention to details and a desire to learn are key to student success in the program. 

PROGRAM STATEMENT

A student attending Automotive Technology for two years will know basic automotive theory, diagnostic methods, acceptable shop practices, and be able to do entry level diagnosis and repair of all eight major vehicle systems in modern automobiles.  Students will be prepared for entry level employment in the automotive field or be ready to transition into further training at a post-secondary school. 

CURRICULUM CONTENT

The curriculum includes but is not limited to: Intro to the Automotive Industry, Tools and Equipment, Safety and Pollution Prevention, Maine State Inspection, Professional Portfolio, OSHA Ten-Hour class
