Activists: 98 dead in assault on rebel-held Damascus suburb

BEIRUT (AP) — Intense Syrian government shelling and airstrikes of rebel-held Damascus suburbs killed at least 98 people in what was the deadliest day in the area in three years, a monitoring group and paramedics said today.

A day after Monday’s government barrage, retaliatory shells rained down on the capital Damascus, killing at least one person today.

New Wynn CEO denies prior knowledge of sex claims against founder

The new CEO of Las Vegasbased Wynn Resorts said he was not aware of any of the sexual misconduct accusations against casino mogul Steve Wynn before they surfaced last month.

Matt Maddox, who was appointed CEO on Feb. 6 after Wynn resigned, added that people should “hold off making any judgment until the investigations into the accusations are complete.”

WASHINGTON

Former Associated Press photographer Max Desfor, whose photo of hundreds of Korean War refugees crawling across a damaged bridge in 1950 helped win him a Pulitzer Prize, died Monday. He was 104.

Desfor died at his apartment in Silver Spring, Maryland, where he’d been living in his retirement, said his son, Barry.
